Abstract

|
Migration of plastic and covered-metal stents is a recognized phenomenon but is an extremely uncommon complication of uncovered self-expandable metal stents (USEMS). To our knowledge, this is the first case report describing the migration of an uncovered self-expanding metal stent used to treat proximal biliary obstruction secondary to cholangiocarcinoma. This report outlines the complications surrounding this case and discusses the existing literature and the potential complications of uncovered and covered self-expandable metal stents.
